An iPad or a tablet in general is great, you will get to increase your productivity, watch movies & videos etc. Some peeps even use it as a phone or a camera.
Recently, I decided to buy an iPad to increase my work productivity. (I am not a apple fanboy, just that my workplace only allows the usage of Apple products). As any normal Singaporeans would do, I was clicking around the Apple store to find the most economical model/accessory that I should get. Then I stumbled upon the lesser know section of the Refurbished Store.
What is a refurbished product?
Refurbished Apple products are pre-loved Apply products.
This may range from a single used unit that was loaned to a journalist for a
day or it was used by a customer
who discovered a fault after 3 months.
If it's used or was defective why should I buy it??
Apple has promised that all refurbished iPads it sells are
in full working condition, with each undergoing rigorous testing. Any parts that were defective when the iPad
was returned would have been replaced. The casing and battery would also be replaced
with fresh ones. The entire iPad is then cleaned and inspected to look brand
new (At least mine looked brand new after much scrutiny)
Moreover, each refurbished iPad has the same one-year
warranty as a brand-new iPad. It also comes with new manuals and accessories
(chargers, headphones etc)
So what is the difference then?
- There is a limited range of iPad models, the last I checked there was only iPad Air and not Air II thus you are 1 generation behind (but you still get the full range of colors and sizes for the iPads)
- The box that the iPad is housed in is slightly different, this is a deliberate action by Apple to prevent people from buying a refurbished iPad and attempting to sell it on as a new one.
- You lost the magical feeling of owning a virgin iPad -.-"
- You saved a sum of money that could have been spent elsewhere :D
- You get more choices in terms of storage space, anew iPad Air only has the choice of 16gb and 32gb whilst the refurbished model has 16gb, 32gb, 64gb and 128 gb
- You save a large sum of money
Here is a simple table to compare the cost amounts between products.
So how do you get to the refurbished section?
First you go to the online Apple Store and click on the arrow on the top right as circled (you cant find refurbished iPads in the brick and mortar stores)
Click and click till you can see this
Taada
Thus if you are using the iPad for work related stuff, video watching, Facebook and simple daily usages, then the refurbished models would be best for you!! As you can see, since you do not need the latest processor or ram or camera, there isn't a point to spend that extra sum to get a new model or the latest model. (saves about $120 and above)
Cheers
